The Parkhouse Benedict: two poached eggs and crisp apple-smoked bacon resting on grilled focaccia, topped with avocado hollandaise and a chiffonade of fresh basil.

Oh...and mashed potatoes.

At funtarded's emphatic urging, Sheila and I sought out the exhibit of Arien Valizadeh's work entitled Suicide Bombers in Love at RVSA / VASF Gallery in the Haight.  Unfortunately, the space was closed due to the Easter holiday.  We did however get to see the corner storefront installation.

Upon my arrival in the Bay Area on Monday, my old college roommates Sheilani Alix and Geraldine Tablit took me to Cafe Colma, a *fine dining* restaurant located in a casino called Lucky Chances.  Some seriously good Filipino grub, I have to say.  Of course the piggy in me ordered a ton of food: arroz caldo to start with and then a combo meal of bangsilog which allowed to me add on tocino.  Geri (Geraldine) gave me a taste of her sinigang.

I'm drooling again...

The start of the week was hard enough: Monday was the viewing of my *uncle's* body.  I was asked to say a few words and couldn't maintain my composure and started to cry during my eulogy.  Strange having to find the courage to be so vulnerable in front of a chapel full of people, few familiar, mostly not.  But it was cathartic and it seemed the next morning a weight had been lifted.  The sadness was a little less sad that day.

Then today happened.  And I hope I made a new friend in Don.

Totally unexpected and absolutely lovely, I had the pleasure of having lunch with Don this afternoon.  Good food, beautiful weather, and excellent company made for such a great time...I hated when it was time to part ways.

With how the week began, I hope this is the start of better things to come.
